Pre & Post Retrofit Evaluations

Through a detailed analysis of your homes current energy consumption, we are able to help homeowners understand the house as a system approach to renovations. We can utilize our energy modeling software to help determine which upgrades would offer the best performance of the home, while considering the homeowners needs and budget.

What is included in your EnerGuide Assessment?

Our fee for the pre-retrofit assessment is $650 + GST for a house up to 2,500 ft2 above grade. An extra

$100 per additional 1,000 ft2 will be added to the pre-retrofit assessment fee for homes larger than 2,500 ft2. Under the Canada Greener Homes Grant, you qualify for a $600 rebate towards the cost of the energy assessment if you complete at least one eligible upgrade. Our fee for the post-renovation assessment is

$400 + GST. If significant renovations have been completed that affect the house volume, such as additions, a new house file will need to be created and additional fees will apply.

An EnerGuide assessment is a valuable tool to help you understand how your home uses energy and will help you identify upgrades that will achieve an improvement in energy efficiency, improved comfort, and potential utility cost savings.

An EnerGuide evaluation includes:

  • Complete review of the building envelope (windows, doors, ceilings, walls, foundation)

    • Visual inspection and measurement to determine surface area and insulation levels

  • Complete review of mechanical systems (heating system, air conditioning system, ventilation system and domestic hot water)

  • Blower door test

    • Depressurization test where required (combustion spillage)

    • Measurement of air changes per hour at 50 Pa

    • Location of major air leakage areas

  • Energy modelling of all components to determine the energy efficiency of your home

    • Compared to a new home built to 2010 NBC National Building Code

    • Individual recommended upgrades with associated potential energy savings

    • ERS certified label for your home as it currently stands

    • Intensity energy rating of your home

The energy assessment will provide you with calculated potential energy savings on an individual basis

and empower you to make informed decisions that are right for you.

The on-site assessment takes approx. 1.5 to 2.5 hours to complete, and we are there to help you understand what your choices are, and what potential savings are available. The energy modelling is completed in the office to provide a Homeowner Information sheet, Renovation upgrade Report and an EnerGuide label for your home.
